2-Inch Liquid-Dominated Flow Loop
The 2-inch liquid-dominated flows experimental facility (Figure 6) is a multipurpose experimental facility, where different configurations of elbows in series can be applied as well as different geometries. The loop can handle superficial liquid velocities up to 7 m/s (23 ft/s) (when working with the liquid-sand flow), solids concentration up to 5 vol% (50,000 PPM), and superficial gas velocities up to 10 m/s (32.8 ft/s) in multiphase flows. The facility was first designed to study erosion in elbows in series for liquid-sand and liquid-gas-sand vertical flows (dispersed-bubble, churn). The vertical 2-inch pipe section is approximate 120 D long (6 m or 20 ft). This facility was recently modified to run experiments in highly aerated slug and churn conditions.
